There is good evidence that the influx of Ca2+ via TRPM2 contributes to neuronal cell death during ischemia-reperfusion injury both in vitro (oxygen and glucose deprivation, OGD, followed by re-oxygenation) and in vivo (brain ischemia-reperfusion induced by transient middle cerebral artery occlusion, tMCAO). Here, TRPM2 is linked to ischemia.
