We found the E. hermannii infection in a cachectic 49-year-old male autopsied in 1999 (0.7 years after the HIV diagnosis), who died from respiratory failure, displayed a last CD4+ count 190 cells*μl-1, and was co-infected with Toxoplasma gondii, Citrobacter freundii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae. The gene discussed is CD4; the disease is respiratory failure.
