IL6 and colorectal adenoma: Adipose tissue, particularly visceral adipose tissue, is recognized as a key regulator of systemic inflammation [4] and can produce a variety of proteins, hormones and cytokines that are collectively defined as adipokines including interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) [5–6], and the risk of colorectal adenomas increased by 13% for each 25 cm2 increase in visceral adipose tissue area [7].
