The density of CD31 stained vessels in dermis of controls was similar to both that of patients with type 1 and type 2 diabetes who were asymptomatic for neuropathy, and those of patients with diabetes suffering from polyneuropathy (p = 0.96; Control: 118+/-72/mm2; DM Type 1: 115+/-44/mm2; DM Type 2: 104+/-20/mm2; DM Type 2 NP+: 112+/-49/mm2) (Fig 8D).
