Because ZNF217 functions as a transcriptional regulator in addition to its role as an inhibitor of m6A methylation [23], whereas the only known function of ALKBH5 is to demethylate m6A residues in RNA, we decided to study the effect of ALKBH5 loss of function in vivo, using orthotopic transplantation of the triple-negative breast cancer cell line MDA-MB-231. The gene discussed is ZNF217; the disease is triple-negative breast carcinoma.
