AFP and neoplasm: AFP level is an important factor for prognosis in HCC.[14–16] Tumor size is also an important prognostic factor.[17,18] Larger tumor size is an important risk factor for local tumor progression after RFA[7]; it decreases the effect of locoregional treatment and increases the recurrence rate compared with smaller sized tumors.[19,20] This data shows that similar long-term survival can be expected following non-LT treatment for patients with preserved liver function plus low AFP levels (node 1) or preserved liver function and small tumors (node 2).
