On-admission fibrinogen ranged between 3.1 and 24.3 μmol/L and higher values were independently associated with older age (p = 0.002), higher C-reactive protein (p < 0.001), history of diabetes (p = 0.038) and history of heart failure (p = 0.020) (see Additional file 1: Table S1). Here, CRP is linked to heart failure.
