Similarly, in phyllodes tumors, rare breast tumors of stromal origin, there was also a correlation between Wnt5a mRNA overexpression in the epithelium and strong nuclear β-catenin staining in stromal cells, suggesting that Wnt5a overexpression may be contributing to β-catenin upregulation in phyllodes tumors and that the epithelium may be driving the stromal proliferation of these tumors [59].
