In other cases the ferritin anti-oxidant properties seem to play a decisive role: this is the case of human mesothelioma cells, where ferritin reduces H2O2-induced apoptosis, or the case of the TGF-β-induced epithelial to mesenchymal transition in murine hepatocytes, where the down-regulation of FHC is accompanied by an increase in ROS production [51]. This evidence concerns the gene FTH1 and mesothelioma.
