In another previous study investigating the role of NKT cells in an adoptive transfer model of atherosclerosis using immunodeficient, atherosclerosis-susceptible B6-Rag1-/- Ldlr-/- mice as recipients, significantly higher plasma total cholesterol and triglyceride levels were observed in the recipients of B6-CD1d-/- splenocytes compared with the recipients of B6 splenocytes at the terminal 12-week time point [10]. This evidence concerns the gene CD1D and atherosclerosis.
