Given prior reports showing relative under-utilization of growth hormone in children with CKD (13, 21), it is encouraging to note the relatively high rate of growth hormone use in this ARPKD cohort: 4 out of the 22 children (18%) reported growth hormone use, which actually exceeded the number of children with severe short stature at baseline [3 out of 22 (14%) with height z-score < −1.88]. The gene discussed is GH1; the disease is autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease.
