It was recently reported that metformin, a drug with a wide spectrum of anticancer effects [16–18], significantly inhibits the secretion of CXCL8 induced by TNFα in primary cultures of human thyroid cells, derived both from the normal gland parenchyma and from surgical specimens of papillary thyroid cancer with unknown genetic background. The gene discussed is CXCL8; the disease is thyroid gland papillary carcinoma.
