CRP and irritable bowel syndrome: C-reactive protein (CRP) is an acute-phase protein produced by hepatocytes over a context of stress response such as inflammation and infection.20 The clinical use of CRP in the management of IBD has been investigated in several studies, and its role in CD pathogenesis has been already postulated.21 At hospital discharge after intestinal resection for CD, higher CRP levels are observed in a proportion of patients with no postoperative complications.
