In general, females are known to have higher body fat and altered fat distribution as compared to males but are more insulin sensitive and have lower fasting blood glucose levels and better glucose tolerance with age.28,29 In the present study, we show that the previously observed improved glucose homeostasis of male Casp2−/− mice10 is likely independent of insulin sensitivity and does not occur in female Casp2−/− mice. This evidence concerns the gene INS and glucose measurement.
