Kannen et al. [11] demonstrated that treatment with melatonin in rats with colon cancer induced by a carcinogen 1,2-dimethylhydrazine, reduced cell proliferation and induce apoptosis of colon cancer cells, possibly through inhibition of CD133 (+), a glycoprotein which is expressed on tumor stem cells.
