This calcium-dependent protease cleaves different proteins implicated in cancer progression and metastasis such as the insulin-like growth factors receptor 1 (IGF1R) [8], the growth factors vascular endothelial growth factor C (VEGF-C) and platelet derived growth factor (PDGF) [11] and membrane-type 1 matrix metalloprotease 1 (MT1-MMP) [12,13].
