The hOGG1 can repair oxidative damage to the DNA, and it is well known that the OGG1 gene alteration increases susceptibility of the human cells to toxic compounds related to some toxins such as tobacco smoke, alcohol, and uremia, with a strong relationship between deregulation of the hOGG1 enzyme and the risk of suffering different kinds of cancers (e.g., laryngeal), due to consumption of tobacco and alcohol. Here, OGG1 is linked to cancer.
