Endostatin, the 20-kDa cleavage product of collagen XVIII, has been shown to be a potent inhibitor of angiogenesis by inhibiting endothelial cell migration, proliferation, and inducing endothelial cell apoptosis.[26] Endostatin is elevated in patients with diabetes[13] and chronic kidney disease,[14] which is consistent with our data that endostatin is positively related to diabetes, while negatively related to eGFR.
