The association between systemic inflammatory response and sarcopenia is supported by findings from experimental models, in which pro-inflammatory cytokines, including interleukin-1 (IL-1), IL-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF) were found to be mediators of anorexia and skeletal muscle proteolysis, the key components of cancer cachexia [22]. Here, IL6 is linked to sarcopenia.
