LBP and bacterial infectious disease: Significant increases in LBP, a proposed sensitive acute marker for bacterial infection [39, 40], were detected one week post-circumcision (week 5 median: 18.2μg/ml, IQR: 15.0–23.1μg/ml) when compared to the day of the procedure (week 4 median: 14.4 μg/ml, IQR: 10.6–21.2μg/ml; p = 0.0121; Fig 3D).
