In this regard, a recent study of proteomics explored proteins in 16 serum samples of asymptomatic DMD carriers showing that CA3 (Carbonic anhydrase III), MDH2 (Malate Dehydrogenase 2), MYL3 (Myosin Light Chain 3), ETFA (Electron Transfer Flavoprotein Alpha Subunit) and TNNT3 (Troponin T3, Fast Skeletal Type) proteins were decreased in females compared to DMD patients treated with steroids, [29]. Here, CA3 is linked to Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
