In a murine model of Alzheimer disease, it was described that neurons transcribe TTR mRNA and secrete the protein in small amounts, contributing to a neuroprotective effect against Aβ aggregates.31 We verified that TTR mRNA levels were also upregulated in ischemic challenged WT neuronal cultures (Figure 7m). The gene discussed is TTR; the disease is early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
