Diabetes in skeletal muscle weakens the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle (Ritov et al., 2010) and releases enormous amount of ROS by downregulating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma coactivator 1-alpha (PGC1α) (Mootha et al., 2003; Sparks et al., 2005), which is one of the important mediators in the DOX-induced skeletal muscle myopathy (Min et al., 2015). The gene discussed is PPARGC1A; the disease is diabetes mellitus.
