In unadjusted analyses, age ≥40 years, non-white race, 8 years or fewer of schooling, nadir CD4+T lymphocyte count ≤50 cells/mm3, detectable HIV-1 RNA, smoking, a history of diabetes mellitus, hypertension, or CVD and weight in the lowest tertile were associated with incident CVD [see Additional file 3, which details the crude incidence rate ratios for demographic/clinical characteristics and cardiovascular risk factors]. This evidence concerns the gene CD4 and hypertensive disorder.
