Since activating mutations in PIK3CA have been associated with resistance to various chemotherapeutic agents [20, 21], these results suggested a potential mechanism of cisplatin resistance in cervical cancer cells expressing PIK3CA-E545K and support the hypothesis that inhibiting the PI3K pathway may restore cisplatin sensitivity in cervical cancer cells expressing PIK3CA-E545K. The gene discussed is PIK3CA; the disease is cervical carcinoma.
