Our study showed that even though the AMD and age-matched Normal cybrids have identical nuclei, the gene and protein expression levels of complement inhibitors (CFH, CD55/DAF, CD59, CD46 and CFI) were decreased in AMD cybrids, while the activators (CFP, CFB, CFHR4, and CFHR1) were elevated compared to age-matched Normal cybrids. The gene discussed is CFP; the disease is age-related macular degeneration.
