In order to examine the tumor development present within the colon, Apcmin716/+ mice and their wild‐type (Apc+/+) littermates were aged according to the schematic in Figure 1A. As conveyed by whole mount methylene blue staining of the colon for aberrant crypt foci that is indicative of neoplastic areas with hyper‐proliferative densely packed cells, Apcmin716/+ mice spontaneously developed adenomas between 10 and 20 weeks of age, with majority of adenomas present within the final 2 cm of the distal colon, some in the cecum, and occasionally some within the proximal colon (Fig. 1B–C). The gene discussed is APC; the disease is adenoma.
