CEACAM5 and neoplasm: Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA, CEACAM5), first described by Gold and Freeman in 1965, is a member of the immuno-globulin gene superfamily overepressed by about 90% of colorectal cancers (CRCs) (1), and in other types of neoplasm, including gastrointestinal, breast and lung carcinoma (2).
