In the present study, the retinal findings from humans and genetically hypercholesterolaemic mice, with and without diabetes, are generally consistent with the findings described above: intra-retinal formation of autophagosomes (punctate LC3 staining) was increased by diabetes and further increased (in mice) by prolonged hypercholesterolaemia. This evidence concerns the gene MAP1LC3A and Hypercholesterolemia.
