As (i) there is an evidence of lack of information and unclear mechanisms involved in human ovarian epithelial cancer, (ii) a coupling between nitric oxide signalling and cell metabolism in ovarian cancer has been proposed 14, 15, and (iii) membrane transport mechanisms directly involved in the modulation of pHi/extracellular pH (pHo) are expressed in human ovarian cancer cells 16, we focused this review on a potential connection between the mechanisms controlling pHi and the NOS activity in human gynaecological cancers. The gene discussed is NOS1; the disease is ovarian carcinoma.
