Two DNA methyltransferase (DNMT) inhibitors, 5‐aza‐2'‐deoxycytidine (decitabine) and its analog 5‐azacytidine (azacitidine), are currently used as epigenetic therapeutic drugs for patients with a subset of cancers such as myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and acute myelogenous leukemias (AML) 1, 2. This evidence concerns the gene DNMT1 and acute myeloid leukemia.
