Abundant amounts of AOX1 have been observed in adipose tissue and were proposed to play a critical role in adipogenesis and lipid metabolism by modulating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α48, 49, which may provide a basis for explaining why fat intake showed an antagonistic interaction with AOX-1 hypermethylation on the risk of CRC. Here, AOX1 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
