CD36 has anti-angiogenic nature and downregulates VEGFR2 phosphorylation, (Primo et al., 2005) and through its ligands such as oxLDL (a major factor in the development of atherosclerosis) causes endothelial cell stiffness and atherosclerosis (Shentu et al., 2010). The gene discussed is CD36; the disease is atherosclerosis.
