In one of these studies, with 3,762 adults with chronic kidney disease, a high plasma IL-6 level was associated with AF at baseline (Odds Ratio [OR], 1.61; p = 0.001) and predicted new-onset AF (OR, 1.25; p = 0.03) during a mean follow-up of 3.7 years [35].
