Although these data suggest a role for the TWEAK/Fn14 axis in the pathophysiology of intimal calcification in atherosclerosis, it is unclear whether decreased atherosclerotic plaque calcification in anti-TWEAK-treated mice is the result of lower atherosclerotic burden or of a direct effect of TWEAK on intimal calcification. The gene discussed is TNFRSF12A; the disease is atherosclerosis.
