Given that CD95L exerts its chemoattractant activity only after cleavage by metalloproteases (Tauzin et al., 2011), the observed discrepancy between the amount of immune infiltrate surrounding CD95+ blood vessels in cancer subjects and SLE patients might be explained by the absence or presence of an as-yet-unidentified CD95L-processing metalloprotease.
