Fig 6 shows that Glut1, -2, and -3 (Slc2a1-3) were most highly expressed, but all 3 transporters showed a pronounced decrease in expression between ED7.5 and ED9.5, and were not affected by hyperglycemia, except for a trend for Glut3 (P = 0.08). In contrast, the insulin-responsive glucose transporters Glut4, -8, and -10 (Slc2a4, -8, and -10) were expressed to a much lower extent, but increased with development and, with the exception of Glut8, were negatively affected by hyperglycemia. Glut4 was most sensitive in this respect, with a ~5-fold decreased expression in hyperglycemic embryos. The gene discussed is SLC2A1; the disease is Hyperglycemia.
