This mutant EGFR gene was discovered by Shibuya et al. in 1988 [10, 13] and named ⊿EGFR, de2-7 EGFR, or more commonly, EGFRvIII. The EGFRvIII gene has been found in glioblastoma, lung, breast, ovarian, colorectal, head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC), and prostate cancer. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
