In the present study, we confirm that AKT2 is a direct target for miR-184 in ARPE-19 cells, and miR-184 promotes RPE differentiation via suppression of AKT2. AKT2 is found down-regulated in the macular RPE-choroid of AMD patients, especially in patients with dry AMD. Here, AKT2 is linked to dry age related macular degeneration.
