NPPB and AL amyloidosis: Several studies demonstrate that cardiac biomarkers, particularly NT-proBNP, are powerful predictors of prognosis in AL amyloidosis.42, 43 Current staging systems for this disease are based on serum levels of NT-proBNP, cardiac troponin T and the concentration of circulating amyloidogenic-free LCs.44 In addition to the relevance of NT-proBNP in prognostic stratification at baseline, changes in NT-proBNP concentration after therapy predict clinical outcomes for patients.
