In a phase 3 study of patients with acromegaly who were naive to medical therapy, significantly more patients achieved biochemical control (GH < 2.5 ng/mL and age- and sex-adjusted IGF-1) after 1 year of monthly injections of pasireotide LAR 40 mg than after 1 year of monthly injections of octreotide LAR 20 mg (31.3 vs 19.2 %) [13]. The gene discussed is IGF1; the disease is acromegaly.
