In melanoma cells, TSA was reported to induce growth arrest and apoptosis without the involvement of p53 protein (Peltonen et al. 2005) and several lines of evidence have indicated that both wild-type and TP53-deficient cells are very sensitive to 5-dAzaC (Nieto et al. 2004; Liu et al. 2012).
