Among the antipsychotics, olanzapine and clozapine (both second generation antipsychotics) have been most strongly linked to diabetes mellitus, because they block insulin secretion as antagonists of acetylcholine muscarinic 3 receptors in the β-cells of the pancreas (Thakurathi and Henderson 2012; Weston-Green et al. 2013).
