This scientific evidence agrees with the results obtained on lymphocytes upon evaluating the function of TIM-3 in autoimmune-type diseases, such as experimental autoimmune encephalitis (EAE) and multiple sclerosis, where research has documented that reducing TIM-3 expression is associated with an aggravated state of the disease and a high frequency of autoreactive cells (18).
