Indeed, the mean percentage of CpG methylation (Fig 1E and F) of DAPK1 and NTN1 were inversely correlated with their levels of expression (Pearson's r = −0.32, P < 10−18 and Pearson's r = −0.14, P = 6.7 × 10−5, respectively), suggesting that DNA methylation represses DAPK1 and NTN1 transcription in human breast tumors.
