Fillman et al. (2013) demonstrated that the interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL8, and IL1β mRNA transcripts were over-expressed in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, and the density of major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC-II) receptor-positive microglia (i.e., antigen-presenting cells) was increased in the white matter of patients with schizophrenia. Here, CXCL8 is linked to schizophrenia.
