CD36 and malaria: Proportions of transcripts encoding DBLα0‐containing PfEMP1s predicted to bind CD36 were higher in patients with uncomplicated malaria than in those with severe malaria (43.7 vs. 20.8% for uncomplicated and severe malaria, respectively, P = 0.05), and the opposite trend was observed for transcripts encoding DBLα (DBLα1.[1/2/4/7] and DBLα2) linked to EPCR‐binding CIDR domains (9.3 and 65.0% for uncomplicated and severe malaria, respectively, P = 0.005).
