IAPP and type 2 diabetes mellitus: Amylin depositions are found in various organs, including the pancreas, heart tissue and kidneys of patients with T2D,1 where it is known to induce cell death.2,3 The specific signalling pathway underlying amylin-induced cell death is not yet fully understood, but a few mechanisms including impaired autophagy,4 oxidative stress5,6 and different types of membrane damage7 have been suggested.
