This neuroendocrine cancer is known to contain functional VGCCs (Titulaer et al. 2011b) and patients with small-cell lung cancer with low levels of P/Q antibodies had poor survival compared to those of Lambert-Eaton syndrome with high levels of the antibody, suggesting that increased function of CaV2.1 P/Q channels may drive progression of the cancer (Roberts et al. 1985). The gene discussed is CACNA1A; the disease is cancer.
