This phenotypic impact of L479 is an extension of the previously reported association with reduced body fat and central obesity in Yup’ik Eskimos [47], and it is well in line with data from functional studies showing that increased FA oxidation is linked to reduced accumulation of body fat and improved lipid profile [55–58], whereas inhibition of fat oxidation by a CPT1 inhibitor in rodents causes increased adiposity and insulin resistance [59]. This evidence concerns the gene CPT1A and Insulin resistance.
